According to a directive from SONA, guests were encouraged to “wear local” at this year’s event.

THULA SINDI BLASTS MINISTER’S SONA LOOK

In several tweets, South African designer Thula Sindi called out Minister Khumbudzo Ntshavheni over her SONA look. According to the award-winning artist, the minister’s dress was an apparent dupe for Italian brand Versace.

Thula posted pics of model Gigi Hadid and singer Lady Gaga wearing the dress alongside Ntshavheni’s similar look. He tweeted: “Unethical even in the smallest of things.”

In an interview on the red carpet, Ntshaveheni claimed her look was created by Limpopo designer Phika Designs.

Like Thula Sindi, his X followers were not impressed.

“When you order from Wish,” commented one. Another added: “What she ordered vs what she got.”

Sindi also retweeted a comment that read: “Proudly wearing a breach of intellectual property on the biggest political stage.”
