Missing Joslin: Mum ‘planned her disappearance’

COURT hears shocking details about little Joslin Smith.

The mum of the missing child, Joslin, planned and played a huge role in her disappearance, according to the state. In the summary of substantial facts submitted to the court by the state, it disclosed that Racquel “Kelly” Smith, the mother of the missing Joslin, played a huge role in her disappearance.

The summary document stated that Kelly planned the disappearance of her daughter six months before February 2024 when Joslin went missing.

“Accused 3 (Kelly) communicated during August 2023 her plan to have her children taken away or sold. The plan was to happen in January or February 2024,” the court papers read.

On Sunday 18 February, Kelly took Joslin to a white car that was parked near their home. An unknown woman came out of the vehicle and spoke to Kelly before handing something to her and they went back home with Joslin. The state said on that same day, Kelly, his boyfriend Jacquen Rowhan Apollis, his friend Steveno Dumaizio Duwayne Van Rhyn and Laurentia Geneve Lombaard discussed how they were going to divide the money from the sale of Joslin.

On Monday 19 February, Kelly instructed Joslin not to attend school as she left for work. “Later during the day, accused 3(Kelly) arrived at the house. Accused 3 took Joslin and the bag she had packed earlier. They left the house on foot,” the state’s case reads. Both Kelly and Joslin entered into a vehicle and left.

Later at night, Kelly returned and started looking for Joslin and went on to report her missing at the cop shop. The state said it will produce evidence and documents relating to the crime scene pointing out by Apollis and Van Rhyn.

“The state alleges that at all material times and places mentioned in the charges, the accused persons had a common purpose and acted together to achieve that purpose namely, to commit the offences embodied in the preferred charges. All the accused persons (individually) intended the unlawful criminal outcome or foresaw, with reckless disregard, it’s possible realisation,” the summary read.
