Mosa Nkwashu says her Skeem Saam character mirrors her own life drama.

The world of television can be a wild ride, especially when you’re a teenager navigating through both the ups and downs of acting and, well, being a teenager! Mosa Nkwashu, the talented 17-year-old actress from Mahwelereng, Mokopane in Limpopo, is doing just that on SABC1’s hit drama series, Skeem Saam. Currently portrayed as Lewatle, a Grade 10 pupil, Mosa is taking viewers through the rollercoaster of teenage life—stressful dads, crush dilemmas, and all!

According to Daily Sun, Mosa claims that despite her age, she finds her role both challenging and enriching. “Lewatle is a very interesting character to portray,” she shares. “She faces certain situations that I personally haven’t experienced. It’s fascinating to put myself in her shoes and explore what many teenage girls out there go through.”

It’s in these experiences that Mosa finds growth. Coming from a single-parent household herself, she relates to Lewatle’s situation on some level and appreciates the chance to explore those dynamics. “I enjoy portraying my character,” she said, “because Lewatle and I are different individuals, and that change challenges me.”

What stands out about Lewatle is her bold and fearless nature. Mosa finds these traits admirable, even if she describes Lewatle as being outspoken primarily with her close circle. “I wouldn’t say I like anything less about my character,” she emphasizes. The goal is relatability—making sure that young girls watching can see parts of themselves in Lewatle.

Through her character’s journey, Mosa has gained insights about the struggles of both single mothers and fathers raising children. “It’s difficult for both in different ways, but it’s a tough task overall.” Her role also sheds light on the nature of infatuation and the importance of self-love among teens. “It’s easy to be gullible over a crush,” she points out, “but young girls need to make responsible decisions, even if they aren’t the most popular ones.”

Besides acting, Mosa is also pursuing her matric, fitting in her studies alongside her burgeoning career. She deeply values her community’s support, saying, “It takes a village to raise a child” and “motho ke motho ka batho.” The love she receives from fans and followers keeps her motivated, making each challenge feel a little lighter.

Mosa’s journey is just beginning, but with her passion and dedication, it’s clear that this young star is destined for greatness. As she continues to grow both on-screen and in life, we’re excited to see where her talent takes her next!
