Tumelo Raymond Ntholeng, the former husband of Mofokeng, was represented by Thomas Mahlobogoane, who refuted the accusations, claiming that his client had not filed the claim with the insurance company.

It is alleged that Ntholeng planned his ex-wife’s death. He, together with his cousins Pakiso Makhanya, 39, Mzwanele Mazeke, 36, and Jabulane Thabethe, 38, are accused of premeditated murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

According to the state, the four men plotted Mofokeng’s murder seven months prior. While Thabethe withdrew his bail application, Ntholeng, Mazeke, and Makhanya filed theirs with the Vereeniging Regional Court.

During his bail hearing on Tuesday, Ntholeng said: “I didn’t take any life cover policy on behalf of the deceased. I don’t know if I was a beneficiary of her life insurance. I don’t even know if she had a life cover.

“Even if the police were to investigate my bank account, they wouldn’t find any payments of such premiums. I have one life cover under my name.”He denied giving Makhanya a down payment of R32 500 to kill Mofokeng.
