The ‘Megacy’ are demanding justice for AKA – real name Kiernan Forbes – on what would’ve been his 36th birthday…

Fans of AKA – real name Kiernan Forbes – are hoping he receives the ultimate birthday gift: justice for his murder.

On Sunday, 28 January, friends and family of the late rapper celebrated what would’ve been his 36th birthday.

Almost a year ago, the entertainer was gunned down by unknown attackers – reportedly hired hitmen – in Durban. Forbes and friend Tebello Tibz Motsoane were shot and killed on 10 February 2023.

BIRTHDAY COMES WEEKS BEFORE MURDER

On social media, AKA’s family and friends have been posting sweet birthday tributes in his memory.

But at the back of the bittersweet celebrations was the tragic fact that the star’s murderers have yet to be caught.

On fan of the “Megacy” shared on the X platform: “Happy heavenly birthday Kiernan Forbes. Keep on fighting for justice, wherever you are”

On the evening of Friday, 0 February, the rapper was dining with a group of friends ahead of his scheduled performance at Durban club YuGo.

However, the star barely made it out of the eatery when he was struck in a hail of bullets. The incident was recorded via CCTV footage.

DID AKA KNOW HIS KILLERS?

In December, Minister of Police Bheki Cele claimed that AKA’s killer was a “close associate.”

Speaking to Metro FM’s Faith Mangope, Cele claimed that police were still gathering information, which they had received from two eyewitnesses, who were now in police protection.

Asked if the rapper was killed by “inkabi” [hitmen], the minister said: “I guess once you are hired, you are inkabi, but some of those people were close associates [of the deceased].”

Faith interjected: “So close associates of AKA were part of orchestrating the murder of AKA according to the intelligence you’ve got so far?

Cele continued: “Let me end there. But that you have said, I think it is enough for the public to understand that we are close [to solving the case]”

LATEST IN MURDER INVESTIGATION

In addition to revealing that AKA knew his killers, here is what police have revealed to the public in the eleven months since the star’s death:

  • Recovering cellphone data and video footage from the night of his death
  • Locating the getaway cars and firearms used in the murders
  • Identifying two eyewitnesses – who have gone into protection – who have offered information
