The musician, who is one half of DJ duo King’s of the Weekend, revealed to ZiMoja that he was not fired from the SABC radio station. He told the publication that he left because he needed a new challenge and opportunities.

DJ NAVES ON LEAVING METRO AND FOCUSING ON THE SUNDOWNS PODCAST

One of those opportunities include his gig as a co-host on The Pitchside Podcast, on the Mamelodi Sundowns YouTube channel. As an ardent Mamelodi Sundowns supporter, Naves has been a guest on the podcast a couple of times last year. He now works as a host alongside former Masandawana defender Hlompho Kekana.

“I left on my own terms. I resigned. I am growing. I needed a new challenge and new adventures. I was feeling stagnant. I have the podcast I am doing with Mamelodi Sundowns. We realised we had to be smart in how we do business,” said Naves.

‘AN AWAESOME JOURNEY’

Announcing his departure from Metro FM last month, Naves said

“Looking back on my time at Metro FM, I’ve had the privileged chance to be part of some great shows like Rhyme & Reason, The Preparty, The Kings Suite and Kings Of The Weekend. It’s been such an awesome journey of growth over the years.

“As the legendary Tbose Mokwele once said, ‘the best radio education is from the SABC. If you’ve been there, there’s nothing you can’t handle.’ I’m really grateful for that,” Naves wrote on his social media.

He further thanked the radio station for his amazing journey.

“Change is always there and it’s time. I’m not scared of it.
It’s a new start, a chance to learn, and a time to create on a fresh slate.

“My chapter at Metro FM ends on 27 January 2024. I’m so thankful for the experiences, opportunities, and the incredible people I’ve worked with – some of whom have become lifelong friends.”
