African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula has offered a whopping R200,000 to a church as seen in a video shared on X (the social media previously known as Twitter).

‘TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF THAT MONEY’: FIKILE MBALULA PLEDGES R200K TO A CHURCH

According to the SABC, President Cyril Ramaphosa joined congregants at the Eagle Christian Church in Bloemfontein for the Easter service. The South African President is said to have asked them to pray for a peaceful election. South Africa will be holding provincial as well as national elections on 29 May.

“30 years after attaining our freedom… We want to break forth. We want to enlarge what government is doing so we are here to ask the church to pray to strengthen the work that we are doing,” Ramaphosa said.

Fikile Mbalula explained that he believes in the importance of the church. He added that the church needs support from the community and the government to continue its “important” work. “When you buy a Ferrari, take a little bit of that money and give it to the church, it will help a great deal,” he advised.

“I will pledge R200,000 here at the church. Pastor, tomorrow before the sun goes down, you may give me your bank account details. The money will be transferred to you. [This is because] you are doing a great job. You give your offering in church when you need refuge and RGP of the soul so that you feel at peace in your soul. When young people and kids are found in the church, then we know that it is the right place to be,” Mbalula said.

After hearing Mbalula’s speech, social media users resurfaced the story from 2022 whereby some ANC employees accused the party of not paying them their salaries.

Earlier this year, Daily Maverick also reported that the ANC had announced that they have established a crowdfunding initiative where its members and the public can now make monetary contributions aimed at stabilising the party’s finances.

SECRETARY-GENERAL CELEBRATES HIS BIRTHDAY

Most recently, the ANC announced Fikile Mbalula’s birthday in a special tribute posted on X.

“The African National Congress wishes Secretary-General Fikile April Mbalula well on the occasion of his birthday,” the governing party wrote on their timelines. “We wish Comrade Mbaks long life, strength and good health. Continue serving our people with diligence, dedication and commitment,” the ANC wrote.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has also encouraged South Africans to exercise their democratic right to vote this year and “for those who will be campaigning to do so peacefully, within the full observance of the law”.
