Prayer service to be held for ailing Ukhozi FM host Zanele Mbokazi

Crown Gospel Music Awards founder and Ukhozi FM presenter Zanele Mbokazi is said to be in a critical condition.

Family, friends, musicians and colleagues are expected to gather at the Sandton Assemblies of God Church in Sunninghill, Johannesburg, for a prayer service for Ukhozi FM host Zanele Mbokazi.

According to Sunday World, the evening prayer event will take place on Friday, 7 June.

LUNG CANCER DIAGNOSIS

Last month, Mbokazi – who hosts the IsiZulu radio station’s gospel show, Eshilo, on Sundays at 9:00 – was hospitalised after she lost her voice and her breath in studio.

“Zanele has been unwell since Sunday, 21 April. She was unable to host her show, and MaMkhize Ndlovu filled in for her. She experienced severe pains but felt better by Friday, 26 April, and even attended an event in Pietermaritzburg. However, upon returning to work on Sunday, the illness struck again, but fortunately, she managed to complete her show despite the struggle,” said Mbokazi’s PR manager, Nonjabulo Mdluli, at the time.

“Zanele is receiving treatment in the hospital and her condition is improving. We urge people to continue praying for her,” she added.

After hospitalisation and surgery, Mbokazi was diagnosed with lung cancer.

“After several tests, the doctors found that Zanele has lung cancer. That is what the doctors discovered,” her husband, Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule, told the Ukhozi FM listeners.

Two weeks later, Mdluli confirmed that the Crown Gospel Music Awards founder had been discharged. However, according to Sunday World, she is in a critical condition.

‘IT IS NOT AN EASY JOURNEY’

The publication reports that one of the organisers of the prayer service is the wife of gospel singer Soso Maholwana.

“It is not an easy journey, honestly speaking. She really needs our prayers,” said Maholwana.

“You know how much she contributed to the community; why are we not there for her when she needs us? That is why we initiated this. Even Bishop Nkambule said she needs prayers.”

In attendance at the prayer service will be Reverend Benjamin Dube, Solly Mahlangu, Sipho Makhabane, and Rebecca Malope. Metro FM host Thami Ngubane is expected to be the MC for the night.

Mdluli told ZiMoja that the public is allowed to attend the event, which will start at 16:00. She added that Mbokazi, who is currently taking her treatment, might attend depending on how she feels on the day.

“We are hoping she will attend but it depends how she feels.

“As to when she will go back to work, it is neither here or there. Our focus is on her recovery and full restoration,” Mdluli explained.
