Petrolheads took it to Facebook to gush over a BMW i7 with a plate written PUTIN. Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin is the president of Russia. The former intelligence officer and head of state is considered one of the most powerful presidents in the world.

HOW TO APPLY FOR A CUSTOMISED PLATE

Personalisation of plates in South Africa is synch. However, personalised plates are subject to approval from MEC. Prices differ from province to province, but reports have it that it costs around R1 500. The fee can be less if you opt for fewer characters.

However, you can use no more than seven characters on a personalised plate. According to reports, a Western Cape plate with six characters will cost around R2 000. However, a plate with four characters is around R6 000. Plates with alpha-numeric characters (numbers and letters) cost at least R10 000.

One should have completed and submitted the SLN1 when applying for a special plate.
