SWEDISH CLUB INQUIRES ABOUT R32 MILLION STAR KHANYISA MAYO
No doubt the reports have since thrust Mayo into the top trends. Mayo has been linked to several teams in several transfer windows, but nothing has materialised yet. His contract with Cape Town City runs out in 2028.
However, against the news, the club is yet to confirm if there were any inquiries on the star as alleged by the rumour mill. Khanyisa Mayo is among the most-priced DStv Premier League players, with a whopping price tag of R38 million.
KAIZER CHIEFS RUMOURS
Last year, Khanyiso Mayo opened up about Kaizer Chiefs’ interests. The Cape Town City star revealed that Kaizer Chiefs once acquired his services, but City was unwilling to let him go.
Speaking on Radio 2000, he said, “There was interest [from Chiefs] in January, but Cape Town City was not willing to sell. But I’ve now committed to City until 2028. I’m happy here, and we want to challenge the big clubs and give it a go.”
Little is known about his youth career. Khanyisa Mayo, who happens to be the son of former South African footballer Patrick Mayo, started his senior career with Ubuntu Cape Town in 2017.
Over the years, he has starred for several clubs, including Royal Eagles and Richards Bay. In 2021, he joined Cape Town City and has been the club’s poster boy since his arrival.
He has been clinical on goal and has since scored over 50 goals for the club. Last season, he was joint top goal scorer with Shalulile on 12 goals. This season, he has already netted seven goals.
