No ordinary soccer ‘playa’: Bafana goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has praised his girlfriend for keeping him focused and ‘family orientated’…

Unlike other soccer players who are known for their philandering lifestyles, Bafana Bafana captain and Afcon hero Ronwen Williams has stayed committed to his long-term girlfriend.

The soccer star – who also plays for Mamelodi Sundowns – has shared how his childhood sweetheart Roshni has kept him grounded.

Ronwen was named the man of the match on Saturday’s quarter-final game against Cape Verde after he saved a record-breaking four penalties during a shoot-out.

RONWEN WILLIAMS HEAPS PRAISE ON PARTNER

In a 2019 interview with the Sowetan, Ronwen Williams reflected on how his girlfriend Roshni – whom he nicknamed his “first lady” – has been a positive influence in his life.

The couple began dating as teens and welcomed their son Mikael in their early 20s.

He told the publication: “I have known my girlfriend since I was very young, so she knows me from when I had nothing.”

“We started dating seven years ago, but we were friends for the longest time before that. As a footballer, you tend to attract many women, but I am glad that I have someone who knew me from the start and understands me.”

Ronwen Williams often posts pictures of his partner and his son on his Instagram account.

In one family portrait, he shared: “R [heart] R [heart] M.”

Following Ronwen’s impressive performance over the weekend, Roshni posted on her IG Stories: “I’m lost for words.” In another post she shared: “But, God”.

‘I AM FAMILY ORIENTATED’

Meanwhile, Ronwen Williams also reflected on how fatherhood changed him for the better.

After the birth of his son at age 21, he relocated to Gauteng alongside his family for better career prospects.

He told Goal.com: “I had to grow up quickly. A lot of people at that stage want to go clubbing and buy nice things. But my mentality has always been to sort out my family first.

He continued: “You never read bad things about me [in the tabloids] because I stay indoors and I am family-orientated.”
