Rapper Cassper Nyovest is mourning his friend, DJ Peter Mashata after losing DJ Sumbody in 2022 to gun violence.
CASSPER NYOVEST: ‘YOU WERE SUCH A GENTLE GUY’
The award-winning musician Cassper Nyovest expressed his concern over the alarming rise in gun violence after DJ Mashata’s passing.
The rapper took to social media to pay tribute to his friend and said: “Rest in Peace Mashata bra yaka (my brother). You were such a gentle, genuine guy. Sad news.”
This was followed with more posts stating: “The gun violence in South Africa is just scary. These are people’s kids, fathers, brothers and sisters that are senselessly getting killed. Criminals have realised that they can do as they wish and nothing is being done about it. It’s just sad to watch and painful to live in this country which used to be such a bliss.”
Nyovest also says South Africans are only safe in God’s hands, the country is lawless and it’s not fun to be outside anymore. He’d rather watch a movie.
Gauteng police spokesperson Col Noxolo Kweza confirms the comedian was gunned down in Soshanguve on Sunday, 21 April.
“The shooting involved two men aged 46 and 45 years during the early hours of today (Sunday). One victim died in hospital while the other was injured.”
“The two victims were driving near TUT (Tshwane University of Technology) in Soshanguve when shots were fired at their vehicle. The suspects fled and police are following several leads.”
