SABC and Muvhango finally sign contract for season 26; the show returns.

Duma Ndlovu, the producer extraordinaire, is certainly on a celebratory streak, marking significant milestones in his illustrious career. Recently, he celebrated the launch of his new drama series Queen Modjadji, and now, he is rejoicing again with the much-anticipated return of Muvhango on SABC2. After a prolonged hiatus that left the cast and crew uncertain about their future, they are back on set filming Season 26 of South Africa’s beloved Tshivenda telenovela, according to City Press.

The uncertainty surrounding Muvhango stemmed from ongoing deliberations between the show’s executives and the public broadcaster, SABC. While the reasons for the delay in finalizing a new contract remain unofficial and unconfirmed, sources indicated that discussions had even touched upon the possibility of discontinuing the show. Fortunately, this speculation has been put to rest as the cast prepares for a new chapter in their storied journey.

Since July 3, SABC2 has been airing reruns of Muvhango as part of a campaign to commemorate the 30th anniversary of South African democracy. This initiative allowed long-time fans to reminisce about the show’s most memorable episodes while they awaited the new season.

In a marked effort to usher in a fresh phase for Muvhango, a special unveiling event is set to take place in Fourways, Johannesburg. Hosted by the popular and award-winning content creator Alphi Sipho, alongside Muvhango’s own Innocentia Manchidi (who plays Rendani Mukwevho), the event is poised to showcase the show’s exciting transformations. According to a statement shared with City Press, Muvhango is embarking on a significant metamorphosis, promising a revitalized format that blends its rich legacy with contemporary narratives.

The revamped Muvhango will appear under the new tagline, “Muvhango Lives On,” accompanied by a fresh logo and an updated opening sequence, as well as the introduction of new characters and storylines. A standout addition to the cast is veteran actress Leleti Khumalo, who will portray the character Dr. Nonhlanhla Ximba. Khumalo expressed her enthusiasm about joining the Muvhango family, stating, “I am thankful for the opportunity to be a part of such a beloved show, and I hope to make a positive impact with my portrayal of this character.”

Duma Ndlovu himself has articulated his vision for the show’s reinvention. He noted, “Muvhango Lives On represents not just a new beginning, but a celebration of the show’s legacy.
