Sonia Mbele’s son Donell posts defiant message amid rape charges
Sonia Mbele’s son Donell has seemingly compared himself to the late US rapper Tupac Shakur following his rape charges…
Sonia Mbele’s son Donell Mbele has posted a message of defiance in the wake of his charges of rape against his underage girlfriend.
The young aspiring entertainer was released on bail after he made a brief appearance in the Randburg Magistrates Court on Monday, 20 January.
DONELL MBELE POSTS DEFIANT MESSAGE ON IG
Just hours before his court appearance, Donell Mbele posted an Instagram Story in which he alluded to being falsely accused.
The 23-year-old posted a picture of the inside of a church, where he had likely attended Sunday service. In the picture was a Bible with his name handwritten on it.
Donell captioned the image with a Bible verse that read: “No weapon forged against you will prevail. And you will refute every tongue that accuses you.”

Hours after his court appearance, Donell – the son of Sonia Mbele – posted another cryptic message. This time, he shared a reel of the late US rapper Tupac Shakur, who spoke about his belief in God. Tupac, who was also accused of raping a woman in 1993 – said: “I’m not going to give up my faith because it is going bad for me. I believe in God, in the good and bad.”
Donell also posted the lyrics of Tupac’s song Better Dayz.
Ironically, Tupac – who was shot dead in 1997 – was found guilty of sexual abuse and was sentenced to 18 months to four and a half years behind bars but was released after nine months. According to the LA Times, a judge accused him of “an act of brutal violence against a helpless woman.”
The rapper maintained his innocence.
ALLEGED RAPE OF UNDERAGE GIRL
According to the National Prosecuting Authority, Donell Mbele is accused of raping his 17-year-old girlfriend on two occasions last month.
The young girl – whose name is withheld over her being a minor – resides in Eswatini.
The case – heard in the Randburg Magistrates Court – has been postponed to 10 February for further investigations. Donell has been released on R1000 bail.
It’s not the first time Donell has landed in trouble with the law.
In late 2022, he made headlines when his then-girlfriend, Reokeditswe Makete, accused him of wanting to “kill” and “rape” her after being allegedly assaulted by him.
According to reports, the matter was struck off the roll after the accuser failed to appear in court on multiple occasions.
The South African has contacted Donell’s mother, Sonia Mbele for comment. None had been received at the time of publication.
