Man Arrested for Kidnapping and Murder in Durban
In a chilling development, a 37-year-old man has been taken into custody in connection with the abduction and subsequent murder of a 21-year-old woman. The young woman was last seen departing from a restaurant in uMhlanga on Christmas Day, December 25, 2024.
According to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the woman was observed leaving the restaurant with a male companion in the early hours of the morning, leading to a kidnapping case being filed when she failed to return home.
“Through meticulous investigative work, we were able to identify the man who was last seen with the victim,” Netshiunda stated. The suspect was identified as the woman’s manager at her workplace.
The investigation revealed that the pair went to the man’s residence in the Amaotana area of Inanda, where an argument reportedly escalated, resulting in the man allegedly strangling the woman to death. He is then said to have buried her body in his yard.
The suspect was apprehended early on the morning of January 4, 2025, and is due to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court facing charges of kidnapping, murder, and defeating the ends of justice.
This case has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the dark side of what should have been a festive holiday.
