Tragedy in Duduza: Bodies of Two Young Children Found in Pond Near Construction Site
A wave of sorrow and disbelief has swept through the Duduza community following the heartbreaking discovery of two young children from Zamani. The lifeless bodies of the children were found in a pond near a construction site in the John Dube area, close to the Mega City Flats.

According to community members, the children—believed to be around 6 and 9 years old—had been reported missing just hours before their bodies were discovered by local residents. Panic quickly turned into devastation as search efforts ended in tragedy.
Emergency services were called to the scene, but unfortunately, it was too late. The pond, which had accumulated rainwater from recent storms, is said to have been left unsecured and unmarked, raising serious concerns about the safety measures at the nearby construction site.
Distraught families, neighbors, and friends gathered near the scene, many overcome with emotion. One resident, speaking through tears, said, “This should never have happened. These children were just playing. Now we’ve lost them because no one thought to put up a barrier or a warning sign.”
The police have confirmed an inquest docket has been opened, and investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances of the incident. The construction company operating in the area has not yet issued a statement.
Community leaders and activists have called for urgent accountability and immediate intervention to prevent such a tragedy from recurring. Many have also urged the local municipality to review safety protocols around all active construction zones, especially those near residential areas and schools.
The Duduza community is now left mourning two innocent lives, with families grappling with an unimaginable loss. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in the coming days, as grief-stricken relatives prepare to say their final goodbyes.
