MELINDA FERGUSON ON DEATH THREATS FOR WRITING ANELE AND AKA’S ‘TALE’

The book When Love Kills – The Tragic Tale of AKA and Anele is now available on Takealot, and at some Joburg stores. It is expected to be out nationwide by the end of the week. Speaking with the publication recently about the book, author Melinda Ferguson was reported to have shared that since the book cover was leaked on social media a few days ago, she has received death threats.

Despite the amount of praise she got for writing the book, Ferguson is said to have shared that a cloud of death threats have loomed over her head as well. “People don’t like women who speak out, women with big mouths, but I can never be silent about what looks like injustice; it’s just not me…

“I also got tagged on social media with a lot of hate and even death threats from people saying they were coming for me,” she was quoted as saying.

Author Melinda Ferguson has defended her book about Anele Tembe and AKA

Ferguson claimed to have always enjoyed AKA’s music, however, believes that at some point, his celebrity got the best of him. The author said she wanted to almost serve as Anele’s voice as someone who didn’t have much of a voice or social media presence in that matter.

“My heart broke for this young girl. I asked myself: what were they doing at that time of the morning? At 7 am? I highly suspected drugs and alcohol had been involved…

“Some people have been outraged, asking why have I written about people who have died, but I don’t understand why death is a hands-off topic, especially when there is so much suspicion around how both of them died,” she reportedly added.

FAMILIES REACT TO THE BOOK‘WHEN LOVE KILLS’

Earlier this week, Kiernan “AKA” Forbes’ family in a statement announced that they want nothing to do with Melinda Ferguson’s book. Meanwhile, Anele Tembe’s father, Moses Tembe suspects foul play in his daughter’s death.

In an interview with the SABC News on Sunday, he said his daughter loved her life and had many plans. “She would not strip naked and throw herself down,” he said.

The South African previously reported that Manqoba Zulu (spokesperson of the Tembe family) said despite what many people may think, the family did not commission the writing of the book.

“The Tembe family did not commission the writing of the book and did not contribute to it in any way. The book is therefore Melinda’s own view based on her own research,” Zulu said.

AKA was assassinated in Durban on 10 February last year, two years after Anele fell to her death from the 10th floor at the Pepper Club Hotel on Loop Street. At the time of Anele’s death, she and AKA were engaged.
