Umkhokha loses another top actor

UMKHOKHA: The Curse is losing another lead actor, Msizi Njapha.

The 36-year-old actor and musician from Mbumbulu, south of Durban, is leaving the show that airs on Mzansi Magic from Monday to Friday at 8.30pm.

Msizi is one of the lead actors who plays the controversial Khulekani Mthembu. Khulekani’s challenging his brother Zamcolo for leadership of the family church.

His departure comes after that of Angel Zuma, who played Nomkhosi Mthembu on Umkhokha. Angela recently left the show to join The Lion King in Toronto, Canada.

Although it’s not clear where Msizi is going, he confirmed to Daily Sun that he’s no longer part of the show.

There were also rumours that he had been fired from the show, but he denied those rumours.

“I didn’t leave or get fired. I had a great time on the show, and I’ll forever be grateful for the opportunity and the growth it brought about. But the story of my character had to come to an end. It’s Umkhokha at the end of the day. Death is the centre of the story,” he said.

Umkhokha: The Curse spokeswoman Portia Hlongwane said that Msizi’s character has wrapped up for season two.

“No one has been fired from the show,” she said.

Umkhokha recently brought back its top actor Mbuso Khoza after he had left the show twice. He plays the role of Maphalala.

This time, Mbuso promised his fans that he won’t leave the show again after he realised how much they wanted to watch him.

Mbuso is not only an actor on Umkhokha. He’s also regarded as one of the show’s faces, as many of the show’s theme songs are led by him.

Mbuso played Maphalala in the first season of the show. When the show returned for season two in 2023, there was confusion when his character was played by Langalakhe Zwane.

Langalakhe left the show, and Mbuso was given his character as the original Maphalala. But in February, he left the show, leaving many of his fans fuming and wanting him to come back.
