WATCH: Babes likens herself and Mampintsha to Beyoncé and Jay Z
Jay Z’s Grammy about his wife Beyoncé seemingly reminded Babes Wodumo about her Mampintsha’s viral 2017 SAMA saga.
Earlier this week, American rapper and business mogul Jay Z – real name Shawn Carter — went viral for his speech at the annual Grammy Awards. The musician addressed the fact that his wife, Beyoncé Knowles, hasn’t won a Grammy for Best Album despite having more Grammys than any other artist.
Something similar happened in South Africa a few years ago when Mampintsha blasted South African Music Awards (SAMA) after his then-girlfriend Babes Wodumo lost out on an award.
Babes has since headed online to compare her and Mampintsha to the iconic US couple.
BABES COMPARES HERSELF AND MAMPINTSHA TO JAY Z AND BEYONCE
On 4 February 2024, the annual Grammy Awards took place.
The exciting evening saw dozens of celebs getting awarded for their achievements in the music industry.
There was also a little bit of controversy here and there thanks to rapper Jay Z.
The rapper shocked everyone when he called out the organisers for overlooking his wife Beyoncé for the coveted Album Of The Year Award despite her having 32 Grammys.
“We want y’all to get it right — at least get it close to right,” Jay-Z said. “I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than everyone and never won Album of the Year. So even by your own metrics that doesn’t work,” he said.
In 2017, late musician Mampintsha — real name Mandla Maphumulo — did something similar when he called out SAMA organisers for snubbing Babes Wodumo.
