Watch: Benni McCarthy for Bafana coach? Retired SA star praises home team
Mzansi are hoping Manchester United’s first-team coach Benni McCarthy will return to SA to take Bafana Bafana under his wing.
Manchester United first-team coach Benni McCarthy is full of praise for the Bafana Bafana team set to play in the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) quarter-final this weekend. And Mzansi is hoping that some of his magic as a former player rubs off on the squad.
On Tuesday evening, the boys in yellow and green knocked favourites Morocco out of the competition. They will now face off against Cape Verde on Saturday, 2 February.

In the comments section, soccer fans boldly propositioned the retired soccer star to return to his home country.
@kingingjoe: “You must coach this team 1 day”
@slaying.goloath: “Our Future Manager”
@baretto_koms: “The future Safa president, Caf president, and Fifa vice president.”
IN THE AFCON AREA?
He may have quit playing professionally for Bafana Bafana more than two decades ago, but soccer fans believe he still has the spark.
In 1998, Benni was named Afcon’s top goal scorer and player of the tournament, netting seven goals.
Although SA didn’t lift the title, they did come a close second after playing winner Egpyt in the finals.
Later that year, he would go on to be a key player for Bafana Bafana at the Fifa World Cup, held in France.
