[WATCH] DJ Tira rocks DA concert amid sexual assault allegations

DJ Tira secured his bag at the DA’s election rally in Durban, despite being named in sexual assault allegations…

It’s been business as usual for DJ Tira – real name Mthokozisi Khathi – who performed at a KwaZulu-Natal concert at the Democratic Alliance (DA) election rally on Saturday, 11 May.

This comes amid allegations by fellow Durban artist Luke Ntombela that the DJ sexually assaulted her at his home a decade ago.

This week, the opposition party also made headlines for unveiling their burning flag advertisement.

DJ TIRA PERFORMS AT DA CONCERT AMID ALLEGATIONS

Earlier this week, DJ Tira trended on social media after Durban singer Luke Ntombela accused him of drugging and sexually assaulting her.

Speaking to Ukhozi FM, Luke alleged that she had been invited to the DJ’s home, where she allegedly blacked out and woke up next to him in bed.

The incident allegedly took place in 2014.

On social media, Luke also posted video clips of her accusations as well as screenshots of messages between DJ Tira and herself.

According to Zimoja, Luke has also accused the music mogul of not paying her adequately for a collaboration.

Tira has yet to address the allegations publicly.

However, amid the scandal, the Afrotainment founder performed on stage at the “KZN Rescue” concert at Curries Fountain in Durban on Saturday, 11 May. Fellow artists Babes Wodumo and Dlala Thukzin also performed on stage.

X users were particularly surprised at the DJ’s performance at the DA event, given the shock headlines.

@mok_lebo: “I’m going to assume DA does not care about the sexual assault allegations.

@LekometsaKarabo: “His image is tainted forever… It’s no longer the same Tira in our minds.”

@TororoESO: “Isn’t the same Tira who’s accused of rape? How do you associate yourself with such people? I guess the DA always wanna be in the spotlight for all the hype”.

NO POLITICAL AFFILIATION

Like many other artists, DJ Tira was once linked to the ANC. However, in recent years, the popular entertainer has chosen not to affiliate with any political party.

Since then, he’s performed at IFP, EFF, and now DA campaign rallies.

Speaking to Sunday World in 2021, he said: “I am a businessman and artist who goes where I get booked to perform. I need to support my family at all costs, performing in a political campaign of any party.

“I am hungry, and I need to put food on the table for my family. In in this regard, I am not affiliated with any political party”.
