LUCKY STAR REMEMBERS TITO MBOWENI
In a tweet, Lucky Star Pilchards – which falls under Tiger Brands – remembered the late Tito Mboweni.

The tinned fish company said in a statement, “We are deeply sad to learn of the passing of Tito Mboweni.

“His unwavering dedication to South Africa’s growth and leadership has left a lasting legacy. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time”.

Lucky Star captioned the post: “We lost a true South African Icon.”

On his X account, Tito often shared a look at his home-cooked meals, many of the times involving his favourite food, pilchards.

The former minister enjoyed cooking tinned fish in a stew or curry, which he served with pap.

In July, he even tweeted about how his name had become synonymous with Lucky Star Pilchards.

In his tweet, the amateur chef claimed the term “Tito Mbowening” had been included in the South African Contemporary Dictionary with the definition: “The use of Lucky Star in a cooked meal.”

SOUTH AFRICANS DEMAND TRIBUTE TO FORMER MINISTER

Meanwhile, South Africans are calling for Lucky Star to honour Tito Mboweni with a special edition of the pilchards bearing the late minister’s face.

According to many tweeps, the proceeds should be donated to charity in Tito’s honour.

X user @StHonorable tweeted: “He singlehandedly marketed your brand without getting any remuneration,” while @DDT_PM added: “I started eating canned fish because it was highly advertised on Twitter by Tatana Tito Mboweni. He was not only our Twitter Chef but your indirect brand ambassador as well. He deserves an honour”.
