WATCH: SA reacts to songstress Elaine’s ‘downfall’

‘The fall-off is real’: South Africans have expressed their concerns for songbird Elaine who they think should’ve been a superstar by now.

South African singer Elaine — real name Ndivhuwo Elaine Mukheli — impressed many with her strong voice and amazing song writing capabilities. Her hit songs You’re The One and Risky catapulted her to the top of song charts and South Africans were certain that she was going to make it big.

Unfortunately, things have quieted down considerably for the singer who is now being compared to Tyla who is basically a local born international star.

ELAINE’S SUCCESS RATE DISAPPOINTS MZANSI

When Elaine first hit the South African music scene many predicted that she would become one of the country’s biggest and most successful musicians.

Her song You’re The One stayed at the top of charts for weeks and many loved her unique sound.

At only 21, she became Apple’s most-streamed female artist in 2020, she also snatched the title of Top Mzansi Female Album of 2020 on the streaming service.

Naturally, many believed that she would soar to even greater heights.

This wasn’t the case for the singer who was recently recorded performing for a small crowd at an unknown event.

MZANSI SHARES THEIR THOUGHTS

In the comment section, many expressed sadness for the singer who they believe is struggling.

“This just reminded me of what they tried to do with Zonke, telling her that the type of music she’s trying to make won’t sell. Eyi being an artist here is hard…” one person commented while another added:

“The 9jas can take their folks to global stardom but as for us, it’s a disaster. Shekhinah would be a global star by now. Once you leave for the west, Mzansi stops supporting you like when you were here and if you fail and return they’ll laugh at you!”

“How did she fall so quickly? Did we stop playing You are the one,” a third added.
