“I feel like Sports Wives put my parents in a bad light. The initial story was how I got to where I am, so I am trying to take them step by step,” said Tsholofelo.

“But because they [the production] wanted drama, that’s when they shifted the focus to look like I come from a broken family.”

She said it is not true that her parents dis not accept her sexuality, stating that it just took them a while to understand.

“It took my family a while to warm up to the situation,” she stated.

“When I met Bambanani, she was still not ready, and eloping made sense because I realised it was no use forcing her to go through it.”

CHRISTA ON COMING OUT

For Kgamphe-Jane, however, things were much easier as her aunt knew about the relationship.

“My dad knew Refiloe was a woman but did not know how to address it or put it, and he said to me: ‘You’re gay, and I said no, I’m lesbian’.

“He embraced me, but sometimes I feel like he was overcompensating because he did not raise me.

“With my mom, it was a fight because when I finally sat down with her, she said she thought we were best friends and was worried about what people would say.”
