Watch: Sundowns to AFCON Semifinals? Fans thank club that “carried Bafana on their backs

Bafana Bafana has secured its spot at the Afcon semi-finals next week after a nail-biting clash against Cape Verde on Saturday. And many believe the proud moment is largely thanks to PSL club Mamelodi Sundowns and player Ronwen Williams.

The South African national team has advanced to the final stages for the first time in more than two decades. The squad is made up of 10 players from the club, owned by billionaire businessman Patrice Motsepe.

SUNDOWNS HELP SA TO AFCON SEMI-FINALS

On Saturday, 3 February, Bafana inched their way to the Afcon semi-finals via a 2-1 penalty shoot-out.

Mothibi Mvala and Teboho Mokoena helped shoot the ball into the back of the net, while goalkeeper and captain Ronwen Williams made four heroic saves against Cape Verde.

On social media, SA soccer fans were over the moon that their team had made it to their first Afcon semi-final game since 2000.

Others pulled no punches in claiming that Bafana’s victory was entirely credited to Sundowns talented players.
