‘He is my favourite president’ – Bafana Bafana star midfielder Teboho Mokoena salutes Julius Malema at OR Tambo airport.

Bafana Bafana midfielder Teboho Mokoena left fans divided after saluting Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema at OR Tambo airport on 14 February.

A few hours after landing, the Bafana stars had time to meet with fans and some top officials at the airport. Among the players who had time to address fans was Mokoena, who showed love to Malema.

Teboho had an excellent tournament in Ivory Coast and returned as part of the Africa Cup of Nations team of the tournament. Many fans praised his contribution to the national team, showing him love across social platforms.

Despite all this praise, not many fans knew much about Mokoena’s political preferences. Indeed, he surprised fans when he picked Malema among many people to salute him.

“I am thrilled to see president Julius Malema. He is my favourite president in the country.”

Mokoena is not the first Bafana player to show love to the EFF leader. A few days ago, Malema exchanged love with Mokoena’s teammate Grant Kekana after their defeat against Nigeria.

Malema shared on his X (formerly Twitter) that Kekana was his boy, describing him as a soldier.

“Well done, my boy. A soldier must die with his boots on,” Malema said.

After Malema’s post, Kekana also replied, showing his loyalty to Malema and calling him his “president”.

After Mokoena saluted Malema, he divided fans, with some warning him and some praising him.

@Sthamber “Teboho Mokoena, well done on a job well done. South Africa must be proud of you. Julius Malema is the president of South Africa. The democratic process must just affirm it.”

@AndileSiso94 “Football and politics akuhlangani,,,they were not happy when he said that”

@Akanisimon “Let’s protect this boy, soon we gonna hear that Mokoena owns SARS millions.”

@JackPhakathi1 “@romytitus maybe players should be coached not to campaign for Julius”

@Sibusis52882671 “Weeee Jordan will make sure he never play for bafana bafana😂😂”

@Mnca_mnce “He should be careful not to get mixed up with politics. That could be detrimental to his Bafana Bafana career.”
