In a heartbreaking Instagram post, Tony Forbes, the father of the late South African rapper AKA, got candid about how difficult things have been since marking a year after his son died.

‘HARDER THAN I THOUGHT’: TONY STILL MOURNING AKA A YEAR AFTER MURDER

Earlier this month, The Citizen reported that the police appealed for calm as fans and the family of Kiernan “AKA” Forbes lamented the lack of arrests even after a year since the rapper and his close friend, Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, were murdered.

The duo were gunned down on Florida Road in Durban on 10 February 2023. Their last moments were captured by a CCTV in the area. AKA’s father has recently reflected on how the past few days have been a year since marking the death of his son.

“These last 2 weeks were harder than I thought they would be. No matter what I have relived over and over in the last 12 months, as I write this, I am sitting in my car outside my gate waiting for the white butterfly… I just saw it, it’s my ritual of asking him [AKA] to show me [that] he is with me. But, it is harder than ever now… So many things don’t have meaning anymore,” Tony penned.

RAPPER’S FATHER WATCHES SON’S COLD MURDER ON CCTV FOOTAGE

During an interview on Within With Hazel earlier this month, AKA’s father opened up about his feelings towards the CCTV footage that captured his son’s last moments.

He explained that if he had not watched the CCTV footage, it would have forever haunted him. He also expressed that he feels better now, having seen that AKA did not suffer before he died.

“I feel better having seen it [the CCTV footage] because I wanted to know the circumstances; I wanted to see his last moments. I take a little bit of comfort in knowing that he didn’t suffer… Just before he died, he greeted a friend and had a smile on his face… It went very quick,” Tony said.
