Soweto-born actor and rapper Senzo Mfundo Vilakazi known as Kwesta discusses his children, childhood and music career.
‘I RAN AWAY FROM HOME’
The award-winning musician Kwesta reveals on King David Podcast that he fought for his career.
“I went to some extreme measures to kinda show how serious I was. I ran away from home.”
The rapper also reveals that his passion for musician began at school as he was always fascinated by the English language.
“I used to write speeches for other students even, that kinda grew into poetry.”
TshisaLIVE reports that the musician ran away from home and dropped out of school at 16.
“I was stubborn. And I was raised by a single mother who had other dreams for me, and they were mainly academic. I didn’t share those dreams, and I was stubborn about it. So much so that we didn’t get along for a while. I stopped living at home basically ran away and I went to live in the studio where I recorded the first demo…the one I sent to Slikour and Shugasmakx,” says the rapper.

KWESTA: ‘OUR FAMILIES GET ALONG’
Kwesta, who’s been married to his wife Yolanda Vilakazi for 14 years also reveals on the podcast that he likes being married.
“It’s a marriage, we make each other mad and make each other happy.”
“Everyone is happy. My wife can go to my grandmother, I can go to her home alone.”
“As far as family goes, they get along. As far as we go, we have our moments, it’s a marriage. I like it but it’s a marriage. It’s a working progress.”
The fan-favourite musician adds that nobody at his home calls him by his stage name, Kwesta.
