South Africans are mourning the first anniversary of Kiernan Forbes’s death, popularly known as rapper AKA.

While his life tragically came to an end, his last day, including a meal with a group of his closest friends, was a happy occasion.

On 10 February 2023, AKA and friend Tebello Tibz Motsoane was shot and killed outside the Wish on Florida restaurant in Durban. He was reportedly en route to his performance at nightclub Yu-Go.

AKA’S LAST MOMENTS: WHO DID HE SPEND IT WITH?

Earlier in the day, Kiernan Forbes posted Instagram Stories of his day in Durban, which included a haircut at the Bryd & Groom barber on Florida Road.

Without the presence of his usual Durban bodyguards, AKA then proceeded to the restaurant Wish On Florida, which is owned by his friend Philani Boyama or Benny Maverick.

According to TshisaLive, enjoying his “last meal” with him were pals Don Design, Scorpio Siya, Lusasa “Saso” Ngcobo, and DJ Feel. He would also run into old friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, who was in Durban for a birthday party.

Meanwhile, AKA’s last Instagram post on the day he died was one promoting his album Mass Country, which was released posthumously. In the post, the rapper shared a behind-the-scenes look at his time in the recording studio.

A day later, his parents, Lynn and Tony Forbes would confirm the tragic news of his death in a statement.
