The weekend presenter – who joined the station in 2022 – claimed she was made a new offer, which was shockingly below industry standards.

According to Ntuli, the KwaZulu-Natal station offered her R2800 per month. This equated to just over R700 to host the popular three-hour Sunday show.

Ntuli expressed her gratitude to the station.

However she added: “The salary of R2 800 per month on my offer letter or contract is not something I can sustain my life with.”

According to Ntuli – who claimed her previous salary was “not too far off” – she took up her grievance with management. She claims she was told to “consider alternative roles instead of being on air.”

Penny Ntuli’s revelation has been met with shock by listeners of Gagasi FM, as well as the public at large. Many social media users have accused the commercial station of “exploiting” their radio talent.

Penny was not the only presenter to announce her resignation. Khaya Dladla and Hope Mbele also officially announced their departure. It’s unclear what their reasons for leaving are.

Meanwhile, Gagasi FM claimed that it would announce its new lineup on Wednesday, 27 March.

PENNY LEBYANE SHARES HER OWN SALARY

Meanwhile, fellow leading lady of the airwaves, Penny Lebyane, also shared her experience of earning far less than the public imagined

Penny – who worked at Metro FM from 1998 – 2010 – tweeted: “If l told you how much l make on the radio currently, you’ll be equally shocked.”

She added: “Even the highest amount l made when l left Metro FM in 2010/11 was never paid more than 30k. Even when l hosted from 12:00 to 15:00″.

Penny added that her male colleagues, who at the time were the likes of Tbo Touch, Glen Lewis, and Thomas “Badboy T” Mnisi, earned much more.

Penny was joined by former 947 breakfast show producer Simmi Areff in sharing his radio salary woes. Areff claimed he earned less than R10 000 per month for two years.

He also alleged that he also had a “no work, no pay” stipulation.
