7 teen girls arrested for assault in Johannesburg as viral video sparks outrage! A disturbing incident involving school-aged children has rocked the Johannesburg suburb of Bellevue, where seven teenage girls have been arrested for allegedly assaulting a fellow pupil.

The girls, aged between 13 and 14, were taken into custody on 10 May 2025 following the circulation of a viral video that captured the violent episode.
The footage, widely shared across social media platforms, shows a 14-year-old girl being physically attacked, prompting swift public backlash and police intervention.
Authorities have since opened a case of common assault and confirmed that all suspects are minors.
Under the provisions of the Child Justice Act, the arrested girls were released into the custody of their parents pending further legal proceedings.
The Child Justice Act allows for the management of criminal cases involving minors with a focus on rehabilitation and restorative justice.
The seven teenagers appeared before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court today, 19 May 2025.
Court proceedings are expected to continue as the legal system considers the next steps in addressing the assault, which has left many South Africans concerned about rising incidents of violence among youth.
