Penuel: “I Feel Sorry for Black Coffee” – Here’s Why His Statement Got Everyone Talking

The public are weighing into the messy marriage split of Enhle Mbali and DJ Black Coffee, who has been ordered to pay his ex spousal support.

The public – including high-profile figures – are weighing in on the messy divorce settlement between BLack Coffee – real name Nkosinathi Maphumalo –  and Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa.

The former couple legally divorced this week, after a long, drawn-out separation. According to Enhle’s attorney, the DJ has been ordered to pay his ex spousal support.

His bid to uphold an entenuptial contract, which he claims was signed in the latter stages of their marriage, was dismissed.

The couple married in 2011 in a traditional wedding ceremony, and later announced their split in 2019.

PENUEL: ‘I FEEL SORRY FOR BLACK COFFEE’

On social media, Black Coffee and Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa’s divorce settlement has been a big talking point amongst South Africans. Many have debated whether spousal support – despite being customary married – was necessary.

Podcaster Mlotshwa – who has no relation to Enhle – shared his opinion about the messy marriage split.

He posted on X: “I feel sorry for Black Coffee, but let this be a lesson to everyone who wants to get married. Coffee paid amalobolo [lobola], which the court interpreted as the official start date of their customary marriage.

“The court invalidated the pre-nup they signed later and stated that Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa was misled & lacked legal advice. Thus, their marriage is automatically deemed customary, meaning they were married in community of property, and she’s entitled to spousal maintenance.

Penuel also questioned how the court was permitted to “override pre-nups”, also known as antenuptial contracts.

He added: “Those with them are no longer automatically protected”.

SLICK TALK: ‘CONGRATULATIONS ENHLE MBALI’

While Penuel seemingly sided with Black Coffee, fellow content creator Slick Talk backed the DJ’s ex, Enhle Mbali.

The YouTuber criticised the DJ for dating again, on the back of his marriage split.

“It just tells me what kind of simp you are….He got played like a fiddle. My respect for Enhle Mbali has gone through the roof.

“Congratulations, Enhle Mbali!”.

Radio personality Penny Lebyane also showed support for Enhle.

Without naming the couple, she tweeted about the actress: “I don’t think people realise and understand how young she was when she got involved with him, so she was naive about a lot of things.

“She got a baptism of fire, then what she had to endure in the relationship…He must deal with the law, finish and klaar”.
