BREAKING: Liverpool Star Diogo Jota Dies in Tragic Car Crash with Brother
Emergency services in the Castilla and León region confirmed that the crash occurred at around 12:35 a.m. on Thursday morning, resulting in two fatalities. The deaths of Diogo Jota and his younger brother, André Silva, were later confirmed by the Portuguese Football Federation.
According to the Spanish Civil Guard, the brothers were found dead after their Lamborghini left the road near the city of Zamora in northwestern Spain.
The horror accident unfolded just two weeks after Diogo married his childhood sweetheart. He had been travelling with André, 26, who was also a professional footballer.
Investigators believe the Lamborghini’s tyre blew out while the car was overtaking on the A-52 near Cernadilla, close to the Portuguese border. The vehicle veered off the road, rolled over, and burst into flames in the early hours.
Emergency services responded quickly, but tragically, the brothers could not be saved.
A Love Story Cut Short
Jota had recently married Rute Cardoso, his longtime partner and the mother of his three children. The couple, who had been together since they were 16, tied the knot on June 22 in Porto, the footballer’s hometown.

Just yesterday, Rute posted more photos from their wedding day on social media, describing it as “my dream come true.” In the comments, Jota responded tenderly:
“I’m the lucky one.”
Celebrated Career with Liverpool and Portugal
Jota was a key member of Liverpool’s Premier League-winning squad in the 2024/25 season, contributing six goals across 26 appearances.
He also represented Portugal at international level and played a decisive role in helping the national team secure the Nations League title last month, triumphing over Spain in a dramatic penalty shootout.
During his time with the Reds, Jota scored 65 goals in 182 matches and helped the club lift the FA Cup and League Cup in 2022, as well as the Premier League crown last season.
