Designer or dupes? Doubt over Mamkhize’s bag collection
MaMkhize has been accused of flaunting fake luxury handbags, after many of them were reportedly flagged before an auction this week.
MAMKHIZE ACCUSED OF FLAUNTING ‘FAKE’ BAGS
On the X platform, MaMkhize’s name became a trending topic after her assets were officially auctioned off.
However, one user – @realnorma_kay – claimed that MaMkhize’s expansive designer handbag collection was not as it appeared.
In a post that has since gone viral, the X user tweeted: “23 out of 200 MaMkhize’s bags were authentic. The rest were from Small Street, according to SARS”.
The social media user added: “Rich people do not flaunt their wealth on social media, keep that in mind”.

According to Bidder’s Choice auction house, MaMkhize’s handbag collection fetched a small fortune.
They included the following luxury labels…
- Louis Vuitton canvas bag – R49 500
- Yves Saint Laurent shopping bag – R72 500
- Gucci bag shoulder bag – R57 000
- Goyard clutch bag – R70 500
SUCCESSFUL AUCTION
According to Bidder’s Choice, MaMkhize’s luxury items and fleet of construction vehicles attracted attention from around the country.
Managing director Pieter Geldenhuys told IOL: “We have been surprised by the amount of interest, especially by new clients. They were not only coming to view out of curiosity, but these were serious buyers.
Geldenhuys stated that many bidders “knew exactly which items they wanted”.

On the topic of designer handbags, he added: “We collected a lot… My team went through each and every bag and suitcase to check for serial numbers (some are hidden), so they had to be trained on how to identify them.
We then sent those off to an independent company in Sandton to authenticate.”
MAMKHIZE: REPEAT OFFENDER?
It’s not the first time MaMkhize has been accused of wearing fake designer labels.
On the once-popular, now defunct Instagram page, “Fake Gucci Community”, the flashy businesswoman was repeatedly called out for allegedly wearing a pair of designer dupes.
In fact, the label-loving star was named a “permanent resident” of the page.
