Diski commentator aims high after graduation
AWARD-winning SuperSport TV soccer commentator Reggie “Mapensela” Ndlovu wants to nurture stars in the creative arts.
The 36-year-old diploma in TV drama and production graduate has advanced his skills to teach others about creative art.
Reggie, currently an IsiZulu soccer commentator on SuperSport, has successfully completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), specialising in creative arts (senior phase) and dramatic arts (FET).
He graduated from Stadio Higher Education in Joburg on Monday, 12 March.
That was after he graduated with a diploma in TV drama and production at Durban University of Technology (DUT) in 2011.
Reggie from Nquthu, KZN, told Daily Sun that his aim in doing PGCE is to transfer his creative art to the next generation.
“I was sharpening my skills as someone who can teach anytime from now. Because of my noble knowledge of creative art, I was encouraged to do PGCE to professionally pass my knowledge to others.
“I have worked on Muvhango behind the scenes, and I was on screen on Generations, Rhythm City, Scandal!, just to name a few, and I have directed a few films,” he said.
He said he has observed many talented individuals in kasi who lack guidance or training in acting, directing, producing, and performing arts.
“I wish to pass my knowledge to the young stars. Many schools have dramatic art as a subject, and I can be a good teacher for that because I’ve studied drama, acted, directed, and produced.
“I have firsthand experience and know how to nurture producers, directors and producers. I have also mastered all acting departments, including wardrobe, make-up, and others, and I can run it,” Reggie said.
He said he was inspired by legendary playwrights such as Gibson Kente and Mbongeni Ngema, who nurtured many top actors.
“If I can get the opportunity to knock at Joburg Theatre and The Playhouse to start acting workshops for those who have matric, I can use it because many of the youth just finished matric and stay at home and exposed to crime.”
He added that he wants to nurture young sports commentators.
Reggie recently scooped Sports Personality of the Year at the Zikomo Africa Awards in 2024.
