ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula celebrated his birthday on April Fool’s Day with a lavish bash and a generous donation to an underprivileged community.
The former minister turned 54 years old. According to reports, the official birthday of “Bra Fiks” is actually a week later, on 8 April.
FIKILE MBALULA CELEBRATES APRIL FOOL’S BIRTHDAY
On his X account, the ANC commemorated Fikile Mbalule’s birthday with a special mention.
The political party wished the former minister “long life, strength, and good health”
Fikile – whose middle name is April to coincide with his birthday month – had a jam-packed schedule for his special day, which kicked off with a media briefing on the ANC NEC meeting at Luthuli House.
The 54-year-old was then spoiled with a lavish cake and a spread in the colours of ANC – yellow, green, and black.
Fikile then took his celebrations to the Laudium Civic Centre, where he handed out gifts such as school shoes, cellphones, blankets, food parcels, and medical equipment.
He tweeted about the charity initiative: “Birthdays are a time for celebration, reflection, and most importantly, giving back!
Fikile claimed his generous gifts go towards “honoring their wisdom, sharing moments of joy, and giving back to those who have given us so much.”
He added: “It’s more than just a gesture; it’s a reminder that true leadership is about service.”
‘NO COINCIDENCE’
According to the Sowetan, Fikile Mbalula celebrates his birthday a week earlier, as his actual bornday is listed as 8 April!
Fikile was born on a farm near Botshabelo, a township outside Bloemfontein.
On the X app, South Africans poked fun at the irony.
X user @king_damane posted: “Fkile’s birthday is on April Fool’s . It’s no coincidence”. Another –@FrancoisCTown – tweeted: “Fikile is not just a fool on 1 April, but a fool for the whole year”.
BOSA leader Mmusi Maimane also joined in, tweeting about Fikile’s announcement of a 0.5 VAT increase: “We are not April fools.”
