Text Messages Bolster Case Against Kelly Khumalo in Senzo Meyiwa Murder Trial
In the trial for the 2014 murder of Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa, WhatsApp messages from Kelly Khumalo to her sister Zandie, revealed by lead investigator Brigadier Bongani Gininda, have heightened suspicions of her involvement with many believing the evidence is sufficient for a conviction. Sent in October 2013, a year before Meyiwa’s death, the messages show Khumalo expressing regret over her relationship with Meyiwa, the father of her daughter, stating, “I am emotionally drained, and I feel Senzo brought a dark cloud. I regret everything. I wish I never met Senzo. Look now, I am just seen as a person who is breaking Senzo’s family.” The conversation escalated with Khumalo writing, “He is going to leave; he is so scared of his mother. I wish I was not pregnant. hate myself for not succeeding in getting rid of him,” suggesting premeditation. As the trial progresses, these texts have fueled widespread conviction that they strongly implicate Khumalo in the murder.
