MASKANDI singer Bobo “Mfana Wepiki” Mhlongo bounces back with a new album after surviving a deadly mob attack.

MASKANDI singer Bobo “Mfana Wepiki” Mhlongo bounces back with a new album after surviving a deadly mob attack.

He’s set to release his 12-track album called Angincethezi on Friday, 23 May, and music lovers are relieved to see him fully recovered.

The musician from Nquthu, KZN nearly died after he was attacked by residents in Kagiso, Mogale City, in October 2023.

The incident happened after one of his tenants cried for help when it seemed like Bobo was taking the tenant’s kid with him after rent money for a rental house was allegedly not paid. The residents responded with a mob attack that landed the singer in the hospital.

After he was hospitalised in the ICU, many music lovers lost hope that he’d return with his music.

Bobo told Daily Sun that he’s thankful that he survived and emphasised that the incident still hurts him and he doesn’t want to talk about it further.

“Although the incident still hurts me when I think about it, I can confirm that I have fully recovered, with only a few minor things to deal with.

“It was too difficult recording this album because before, I used to play the guitar to record my songs. But I tried this time, and my hands are still not able to play the guitar the way I want to play it. I was forced to use another lead guitarist to play for me,” he said.

He said during the mob attack he also lost his memory, and his mind was interrupted but now his memory is back, and his mind is working properly.

He has released 17 albums since he went solo after being Mgqumeni Khumalo’s dancer for many years until 2009.

He said that his new album is not about fighting anyone in the maskandi music as many stars normally attack each other.

“Now I’m fit to be back on stage again and I hope that event organisers will book me, and I hope that music lovers will enjoy my new music,” added Bobo.
