
MZANSI soccer star Cassius Mailula is going through a deeply painful time.
This after the passing away of his beloved mum, just shortly after he shared a Mother’s Day message to her on Sunday, 11 May.

The 23-year-old Limpopo forward, who plays for Wydad Athletic Club in Morocco, shared the heartbreaking news with his followers through a heartfelt message through social media on Monday, 12 May.
His club, Wydad, released a statement offering their support during his time of grief.
“On behalf of the president and all members of Wydad Athletic Club, we extend our deepest condolences to Cassius Mailula on the passing of his beloved mother.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family during this difficult time. May her soul rest in peace,” the statement read.
Cassius, known for his passion, humility, and strong family values, opened his heart in an emotional tribute on social media.
In his message, he honoured his mum’s strength and the role she played in shaping the man he has become.
“My Queen. My Angel, ‘Pinkilash Waka’, ‘Chomi yaka’, You have raised a star and a king. I’m so proud to call you my mother,” he said.
He continued, expressing how grateful he is for her presence in his life:
“You have always been a supportive mother and an amazing human being.”
He said felt the strength of her love and presence.
“Today I smile because I know I have made you proud, and that I gave you the best send-off by scoring for you in your last days with us on earth. Thank you for all the sacrifices you made for our family and for everything that you’ve done for me. Rest in peace, My Queen. I love you now and forever,” he said.
Cassius’ football journey began at the Mamelodi Sundowns Academy in 2016, where he was scouted after being named Player of the Tournament at the Mandela Youth Challenge.
He made his professional debut for Sundowns in 2022.
In 2023, he joined Toronto FC in the MLS and later moved on to Wydad.
