Preschool Teacher Confesses to Drowning Boyfriend’s Daughter After Heated Dispute

A preschool teacher, Amber Lee Hughes, has confessed to drowning her boyfriend’s four-year-old child, Nada-Jane Challita. The tragic incident reportedly followed an intense confrontation with the child’s father regarding his extramarital affairs.

The 25-year-old defendant, facing serious allegations of sexual assault and homicide, submitted formal confessions to the Johannesburg High Court after changing her legal team mid-trial.

National Prosecuting Authority representative Phindi Mjonondwane confirmed these admissions came following comprehensive arguments from both prosecution and defense teams.

Court documents reveal Hughes acknowledged struggling with borderline personality disorder during the time of the incident. Despite this mental health challenge, she affirmed complete awareness of her actions and described several failed attempts to take her own life in the aftermath.

The events of the day were explained to the court and painted a gruesome picture of what happened. Hughes had a fight with her boyfriend and was very angry with him. In her anger, she took his child and killed her by drowning as a way to get back at him.

Partial Admission With Key Denial

While accepting responsibility for the child’s death, the accused educator vehemently disputed the sexual violation charges, asserting no involvement or knowledge regarding those specific allegations.

The judicial process will resume on August 7 for final arguments concerning these admissions. Hughes remains detained as the case continues to unfold.
