
“RIP: Ukhozi FM’s Martin Ziqubu passes away at 68”
Beloved Ukhozi FM star Martin Ziqubu has died suddenly aged 68.

The popular voice-over artist and drama actor from Ntuzuma, north of Durban, passed away in Durban on Thursday, 24 July.
His family said he was feeling well but suddenly complained about struggling to breathe. He was rushed to a doctor but died before he could receive treatment.

Martin was famous for his bold, unique voice when doing Ukhozi FM promos and playing lead characters in the station’s on-air dramas.
He made his name playing the lead character Ngqongqo in Ukhozi FM’s radio drama Kusa Kusa, a few years ago.
Recently he played the lead character Gombela in Ukhozi FM’s on-air drama Indandatho Yesethembiso.
His wife Nhlanhla Ziqubu said the publication the family is still shocked by her husband’s sudden passing.
“He was well and never complained about pain or any illness. On Thursday, he woke up as normal and attended the meeting in Durban and his meeting went well.
“On his way home in the afternoon, he complained that he was struggling to breathe and was rushed to the nearest doctor in Durban for medical treatment. Unfortunately, he couldn’t make it. We are still shocked and don’t know the cause of his death,” she said.
Martin had been acting in leading roles on Ukhozi’s different radio dramas since 1991.
He started his TV acting career in 2018 after retiring as a teacher for 40 years when he was 61 years old. His acting talent impressed Mzansi.
He appeared in Mzansi’s top productions including Imbewu: The Seed, Isibaya, eHostela, Uzalo, and the movie Nomthawelanga.
