Survivor Speaks: The Night That Changed Everything in Mamelodi

Survivor Speaks: The Night That Changed Everything in Mamelodi

Desmond Senong and cousins Tshiamo and Baleseng Moramaga — went out to dance, laugh, and enjoy themselves. But before the night was over, two lives were lost, and one man’s life changed forever.

According to Desmond, the evening started peacefully. They were having fun at a local hangout when Tshiamo’s boyfriend suddenly arrived and began acting aggressively. The argument didn’t last long, but the tension was clear. Later that night, as they were walking outside, the same man allegedly returned in a car, stepped out, and opened fire.

In moments of chaos and fear, Tshiamo and Baleseng were shot and killed. Desmond was hit too — the bullet struck him in his private area, leaving him with life-changing injuries. Doctors later told him that one of his testicles had to be removed.

Desmond describes the pain as something “he will never forget.” It’s not only physical but deeply emotional — losing close friends and part of himself in one night. Despite everything, he says he’s grateful to be alive and thankful for the love and support he’s received from his family and community.

The suspected shooter has been arrested and remains in custody. The case is expected to return to court early next year.

For Desmond, recovery is both physical and emotional. He now faces the challenge of healing, raising his daughter, and learning to live with what happened. His story is a reminder of how quickly anger and violence can destroy lives — and how survival, even in pain, can become a powerful symbol of strength and hope.
