The incident comes after a series of unusual social media outbursts from Mashego. In several Instagram Live sessions, he shocked his followers by accusing some of the biggest names in Amapiano of not paying him what he is owed. He specifically claimed that Scorpion Kings — DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small, owed him R23 million for his contribution to the hit track Biri Marung. Alongside these accusations, Mashego also made unverified claims about the personal lives of other well-known musicians, further stirring controversy.
Mashego’s name began trending after yet another Instagram Live, where he appeared emotional and revealed that he was stranded in Nigeria. He explained that he had travelled there for a performance, but things did not go as planned, leaving him in a difficult situation.

Speaking to his supporters, Mashego said: “Please forgive me for misbehaving, for all the things that happened in Nigeria. I’m talking to my fans only. Let’s pray. Thank you to everyone who’s had me in their prayers. You can see I’m alive. New everything, including the hair.”
Following this, his family stepped in and released an official statement on his behalf. They expressed their gratitude to the public for the love and support shown to Mashego during this difficult time.

“We would be remiss if we did not start by thanking the public of South Africa, especially Tebogo’s fans, for the outpouring of love and support you have shown over the past week. Your concerns, your messages of love and support have not gone unnoticed,” the statement read.
They further explained that Mashego would be taking some time off to recover from the recent events. His family also requested privacy and urged people to stop spreading unverified information.
“As the family of Tebogo Mashego, we respectfully request time and privacy to process and come to terms with the recent incident involving our child… Furthermore, we request that no media, friends or colleagues should attempt to visit Tebogo. Access will be limited strictly to immediate family members.”
