A female passenger in the vehicle at the time of the shooting sustained a severe spinal injury and has been left paralysed.

State Reveals Tebogo Thobejane’s Flight

According to IOL, the state told the court that Tebogo Thobejane fled South Africa due to fear for her safety. Her current location remains unknown.

It is a fact that Miss Thobejane fled the country out of fear for her life. She communicated with the investigating team that she still fears for her life and that’s why she will not return. So her life has also changed forever,” the state said.

The court was informed that Tebogo Thobejane sent a WhatsApp message to the investigating officer detailing the trauma she continues to endure.

“I received a message from one of the complainants, Miss Thobejane, indicating that she was left traumatised after the incident and requested to convey to the court that she feels exposed, unsafe and unprotected every day,” the officer told the court.

Matlala Denies Allegations

Through his legal counsel, Advocate Laurence Hodes SC, Matlala denied having any motive to orchestrate an attack on his former partner.

Miss Thobejane was in a relationship with me for approximately 13 months. The shooting incident happened three years after the relationship ended, and I am the one who ended it,” Hodes told the court.

Matlala’s lawyer argued that claims of him being dangerous were unsubstantiated.
