Tyla Makes Mzansi Proud Yet Again!
SINGER flies Mzansi flag high once again.
Grammy Award winner Tyla (23) is nominated in two categories in the MTV Video Music Awards (MTV VMA) for her hit song, Push 2 Start.
She’s nominated for Best Afrobeats and Best Choreography.
The award ceremony will be held at UBS Arena in New York, US on 8 September and will be aired live on MTV (DStv Channel 130).
Senior vice-president and general manager of Paramount Africa and Lead BET International, Monde Twala, said the global recognition of African artists at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards is a resounding affirmation of the genre’s influence and the visionary creativity shaping its evolution.
“These nominations are not just limestones for the artists. They represent a cultural shift. At MTV Africa, we are proud to continue elevating African music and talent,” said Twala.
Nigerian singers Asake and Burna Boy also received two nominations each.
Asake, whose real name is Ahmed Ololade (30), earned two nominations for his hit song Active with Travis Scott, and for Get It Right with Tems.
Both songs are nominated for Best Afrobeats.
Burna Boy, whose real name Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu (34), is also nominated for Best Afrobeats for his song, TaTaTa featuring Travis Scott, while his song Higher is nominated for Video for Good.
