Veteran Actress Nandi Nyembe Passes Away at 75

 at the age of 75 after battling a long-term illness.

Her family confirmed the news, describing her death as a painful loss not only to them, but also to the nation’s cultural and artistic landscape.

Her grandson, Jabulani Nyembe, shared that the actress had been fighting ill health for some time and, despite all efforts to restore her health, she sadly succumbed in hospital.

“We tried everything to save her, but sadly she passed away. We are now focused on preserving her legacy and holding onto her values as a family,” he said.

Nandi Nyembe was widely celebrated for her remarkable acting career, spanning decades across film, television, and theatre. She became a household name in South Africa through her memorable roles in productions such as Yizo Yizo, Zone 14, and Soul City.

Her passing has sparked an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, fans, and the broader arts community, who hailed her as a cultural icon and a mentor to many in the industry.
